Three years ago, while working on a short story, I wrote down some goals. Short-term – cut coffee consumption down from ten-cups-a-day to eight-cups-a-day. Long-term – get a book published before turning 40.
On 11 December 2019, I sat at my desk in my little room at the Elliot Park Hotel in Minneapolis and jotted down ideas for a new book. I scribbled the working title – Too Small to Come Home – in my new, Jameson notebook. (thanks, Duff) And then I toiled for two years straight.
It’s the story of being the father of two daughters, two years apart, both of whom came into our lives early. Lil born 10-weeks premature and Lainey born 8-weeks premature, they challenged and shattered every preconceived notion I had of fatherhood. It was terrifying and gratifying and I wouldn’t change it for anything.
I’m happy to announce that I’ve reached my long-term goal. The book is now called Damn the Ponytail and is tentatively scheduled to come out in June. Sadly, I still drink way too much coffee.
Thank you, Brittany, for supporting me and all my crazy ways.
So excited for you Matt! Congratulations on pursuing your dreams!
P.S. you’re a great dad!
Thanks so much!!
